the silly art of putting aside #notesforyou
The Container
How we meet the day is dependant on the day and yet we find ourselves pushing ourselves to be a certain way, defy our body's reluctance to move in a way it's not ready to and then feel frustrated that the day didnt go as we would have wanted it to.
What would happen if we started to listen to our bodies and worked with and not against our soma.
One thing that will happen is you'd be more attuned to your own capacity to meet the day.
The other is the day would have to move to your rhythm.
Some things would be completed while other things would not.
For the things that could leave you with a feeling of 'undone' there is a remarkable resource that we use in EMDR and it is called The Container.
The client is invited to envisage an actual container, the visual is all upto the individual. You can decompress it to fit the palm of your hand when moving around the day and expand it when you have the time and calm around you.
In it, you are invited to 'scoop up' all that feels out of your body's capacity on the given day and then close the lid. You can even put a lock on it.
The container is not about shutting away overwhelming feelings or chores, work , thoughts around work and personal stuff. No. The idea is to just put them in the Container so you can attend to whatever your body can on that day and in that moment and then whenever you have the capacity to, you can take something out from your container and attend to it by journaling, drawing, thinking it through on your own or with your therapist.
Give it a try, and if you want to, leave a comment if it helped.
All the best.
Stay Safe.
